Bessie Coleman (1892–1926), affectionately known as "Brave Bessie" and "Queen Bess," made aviation history as the first African American and first Native American woman to earn a pilot's license. Born in Atlanta, Texas, Coleman dreamed of becoming a pilot during an era when racial and gender discrimination prevented her from attending American flight schools. Refusing to abandon her ambitions, she traveled to France, where she trained at the prestigious Caudron Brothers School of Aviation. On June 15, 1921, Coleman earned her international pilot's license, breaking barriers and opening doors for future generations of aviators.

Returning to the United States, Coleman became a celebrated exhibition pilot, thrilling audiences with daring aerial maneuvers while advocating for greater opportunities in aviation. Her remarkable courage and determination made her an enduring symbol of perseverance and achievement.

The quarter's distinctive reverse design, created by U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program Designer Chris Costello and sculpted by Medallic Artist Eric David Custer, depicts Coleman preparing for flight. Her determined expression captures the spirit of a woman who refused to let society's limitations define her future. The design prominently features the inscription "6.15.1921," commemorating the historic date she earned her pilot's license.

Adding another dimension to this collection are the special Stephanie Sabin signature labels. Sabin joined PCGS in 2006 and held several important leadership positions, including overseeing international operations, before becoming President in 2021. Her signature provides a distinctive connection to one of the world's most recognized professional coin grading services.

With all three mintmarks represented, matching PCGS MS66 grades, First Day of Issue designations, and special presidential signature labels, this outstanding collection honors a groundbreaking American aviator while bringing together history, distinctive coin artistry, and professional numismatic certification.
