It’s that time of the year when the US mint releases one of the most sought out sets – The Silver Proof set. And it’s here now! While Mint Proof sets have been released by the US Mint from the year 1936, the Mint Silver Proof sets started much later, in the year 1992. The 1992 set included the Silver Proof coins released that year; Kennedy half-dollar, Washington quarter, Roosevelt dime, Jefferson nickel and the Lincoln cent. The ensuing years had these regular coins and included other Silver coins released by the mint that particular year in Proof finish.

This year the Silver Proof set includes 10 Silver Proof coins minted in San Francisco having a ‘S’ mint mark. What is special this year is that the set’s silver coins are produced in 99.9% silver instead of 90% silver! It also has a special edition 2019 Lincoln penny with Reverse Proof finish, struck at the West point mint and having a ‘W’ mint mark.

The Regular coins

The regular coins in the 2019 Silver Proof Set includes the following:

The 2019 America the Beautiful quarters,

  • Lowell National Historical Park in Massachusetts
  • American Memorial Park in the Northern Mariana Islands
  • War in the Pacific National Historical Park in Guam
  • San Antonio Missions National Historical Park in Texas
  • Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness in Idaho

Also included are the below,

  • Native American $1 Coin
  • Kennedy half dollar
  • Roosevelt dime
  • Jefferson nickel
  • Lincoln penny

The Native American $1 Coin has a reverse design that features Mary Golda Ross writing calculations. Behind her, an Atlas-Agena rocket is shown launching into space, with an equation inscribed in its cloud. An astronaut, symbolic of Native American astronauts, including John Herrington, is shown spacewalking above. In the field behind, a group of stars indicates outer space.

The Premium coin – 2019 Lincoln Penny Reverse Proof !

The 2019 Silver Proof set contains a Premium coin, the Lincoln Penny with Reverse Proof finish. The West Point Mint’s reverse proof cent is like a standard proof coin, but its appearance is opposite, featuring mirror-like designs against frosted backgrounds. This premium cent comes in a separate package in clear United States Mint plastic wrap.

The only way to get this coin is by buying any one of three sets; the US Mint Proof set, the US Mint Silver Proof set or the US Mint Uncirculated coin set. But the Reverse Proof finish comes only with Silver Proof set. The Proof finish of the Lincoln Penny came with the earlier released Mint Proof set. The US mint Uncirculated set will contain the Uncirculated finish Lincoln Penny and will be released on May 14 th of this year.
