The British Royal Mint and The U.S. Mint are two of the most prestigious and respected mints in the world. Both are known for producing high quality coins with creative designs.
The U.S. Mint has issued the legal tender coins for our country since 1792 with the recurring image of Liberty being prominent on many of those issues. Long before the Statue of Liberty the various images of Liberty used to represent our country.
The Royal Mint has been issuing coins since 880, that’s right over 1100 years! The Royal Mint is the longest continually operating mint in the world. During that time they have minted coins for the majority of the British Commonwealth.
The Royal Mint and The U.S. Mint have come together to produce a coin that is a design collaboration of both of their Chief Engravers, the 2024 Liberty and Britannia Program. This is only the second time for a joint effort by two of the world’s oldest, largest and most respected mints. This design features Liberty and Britannia, two historical themes featured on many coins over the years, but never together on one coin!
American Liberty has been historically portrayed by a woman in many variations and represents that bedrock value that is so important to Americans. She has appeared on U.S. coinage since the early years of our Nation. Britannia has been a staple on British coinage since the late 1600s and has long been the national personification of Britain. Often a symbol of maritime power, this allegorical image has come to be a symbol of national pride and unity.
This is truly a coin of amazing firsts. This is the first time that a Chief Engraver from the US Mint and The Chief Engraver of The Royal Mint have collaborated together on one design. In addition this is the first time the national symbols of Britannia and Liberty have appeared together on a coin.
This set consists of a stunning one ounce gold proof coin and a pristine one ounce silver proof. Both coins are from the First Day of Issue and certified by NGC in the perfect grade of PF70. What makes this even more special is that the label is signed by Gordon Summers, the Royal Mint Chief Engraver and Martin Jennings the designer of the obverse image of King Charles III.
