Following his death in 1945, the Dime was chosen to honor Franklin D Roosevelt. The Dime honored Roosevelt partly due to his efforts in the founding of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis (later renamed the March of Dimes) and through 1964 the Dimes were struck in .900 silver.
