Few coins in American numismatics command the mystique of the legendary 1804 Silver Dollar. Often called the "King of American Coins," the famous 1804-dated dollar was not actually struck for circulation in 1804. The best-known examples were produced decades later, beginning in the 1830s, for special diplomatic presentation sets. Today, the U.S. Mint reports that only 16 original 1804 Silver Dollars are known to exist, with one example selling for an extraordinary $6 million in 2025.

For America's 250th Anniversary, the United States Mint selected this legendary design as the fourth release in its 2026 Best of the Mint series, bringing one of America's most celebrated early coin designs to a new generation of collectors. The centerpiece of the set is a breathtaking one-ounce, 99.99% pure 24-karat gold coin recreating the historic 1804 Draped Bust Dollar in High Relief. Liberty appears surrounded by 13 stars on the obverse, while the reverse carries the heraldic eagle design of the historic dollar. A special Liberty Bell privy mark containing the numeral "250" distinguishes this anniversary issue. Even the edge pays tribute to the original, bearing the denomination "HUNDRED CENTS ONE DOLLAR OR UNIT."

Accompanying the gold coin is a completely new one-ounce, 99.9% fine silver medal inspired by both the original 1804 Dollar and the remarkable diplomatic story behind it. Its flowing portrait of Liberty draws inspiration from the ribbon in Liberty's hair on the historic coin, while imagery including the globe, clouds, 13 stars and rising sun reflects the international journey and aspirations of the young United States. Rather than simply duplicating the original dollar, the medal gives collectors a modern artistic interpretation created specifically for this historic 2026 program.

The United States Mint limited production of the original two-piece set to just 15,000, with the gold coin struck at the West Point Mint and the silver medal produced at the Philadelphia Mint. The set offered here takes that scarcity considerably further: both pieces have been certified by ANACS at the perfect SP70 grade and designated Advanced Release. Each matching pair carries the same individual number as part of an exclusive 150-set ANACS numbered edition, creating an exceptionally limited certified presentation of one of the marquee releases of America's 250th Anniversary.

From the almost mythical history of the original 1804 Dollar to a full ounce of 24-karat gold, a newly created silver companion medal, perfect SP70 certification and an exceptionally small numbered Advanced Release edition, this is a set built around one of the greatest stories in American coin collecting.
