The Walking Liberty issue is the third release in the Mint’s special Best of the Mint series, which revisits five historic American coin designs through newly issued 24-karat gold coins paired with modern silver companion medals. At the heart of the set is the spectacular 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar design by Adolph A. Weinman, one of the most celebrated designs in U.S. numismatic history. Liberty strides toward the rising sun draped in the American flag while carrying branches of laurel and oak—a design so enduring that it later became the inspiration for the American Silver Eagle. For this special 2026 release, the historic half dollar has been recreated in 99.99% pure gold, containing a full ½ troy ounce of gold. United States Mint

Accompanying the gold coin is a substantial 1-ounce .999 fine silver medal that reinterprets Weinman’s classic imagery in a dramatic Art Deco-inspired composition. The U.S. Mint designed the medal so that elements of the scene flow across both sides, with Liberty on the obverse and a soaring eagle continuing the landscape on the reverse. The gold coin was struck at the West Point Mint, while the silver companion medal was produced at the Philadelphia Mint. United States Mint
