The obverse of the coin showcases the iconic design from the “Mercury Dime,” featuring the Winged Liberty. Minted from 1916 to 1945, this widely celebrated dime is now regarded as one of the most beautiful coins ever produced by the U.S. Mint. The wings on Miss Liberty’s head symbolize freedom of thought, but many saw a resemblance to the Roman god Mercury, leading to the nickname becoming widely adopted.
On the reverse, the coin displays a design originally created by Weinman for the 1907 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Gold Medal. It features a majestic American Eagle perched on a stone ledge, clutching an olive branch. The AIA Gold Medal is the highest honor awarded by the AIA, first presented in 1907 with Weinman’s design. This coin marks the first time this design has been featured on a United States coin in the U.S. Mint’s Palladium Eagle series!
